Like many who discover a passion for childbirth, I began my journey towards becoming a doula when I became pregnant with my son. I simply assumed that I would receive prenatal care from an OB/GYN and arrive at my local hospital when the moment came to deliver my baby. However, after I began researching childbirth, I discovered that women have more choice in how and where they birth their babies. I went on to have an empowering birth with my son; and it is my calling to help other women have an equally safe and satisfying birth. As a doula, I am deeply committed to helping you realize all of your birth choices!
I am currently a doula seeking certification from DONA International. I completed doula training from Working Woman Doula Training in San Francisco, CA in October 2006, and began taking clients at that time. However, after moving to Omaha, NE and discovering I was pregnant with my daughter, I put my aspirations for a career as a doula on hold.
Throughout the past two years I have remained active in the childbirth community. I am a passionate advocate of options for women in childbirth and of the concept of informed consent. I have been an active member in the Nebraska Friends of Midwives and served as the Secretary of that organization in 2008. I was also involved with the performance of Karen Brody’s play Birth, which was performed throughout Nebraska in August and September of 2008 as a part of the BOLD (Birth on Labor Day) movement.
What I lack in experience as a doula I make up for with passion, dedication, and knowledge of the birth process. My determination to assist women and their partners in childbirth has driven me to constantly educate myself on all aspects of birth and early childhood. I believe in a woman’s right to make informed decisions about her health and that of her baby in childbirth. It is my goal as a doula to support those choices, leaving my own ego aside. This is your birth!
